What happens if you are at another birth or unable to attend mine? Will I meet your backup?

This is a great and important question, and I always appreciate when families ask it. I am very intentional about how many births I take on in any given month—typically between 2 to 5—so that I can provide reliable, focused care to each family I support. Because of this, the need for a backup doula is quite rare. However, life and birth are unpredictable, so I always have a plan in place.

If I am unable to attend your birth—whether due to attending another birth or a true emergency—you will still be in incredibly capable hands. I work closely with a team of experienced and compassionate birth workers who share similar values, philosophy, and professionalism. We support one another regularly and stay in communication weekly to ensure we’re all aware of each other's client timelines and potential needs.

Yes, you will have the opportunity to meet your backup if there is any indication she might need to step in. I believe it's essential that you feel comfortable and supported, no matter who is present at your birth. That said, I do everything in my power to be the one there with you.

The heart of it is that while I plan carefully and attend the vast majority of my clients’ births myself, I also have a trusted circle of support to ensure that no family is ever left without a skilled, caring doula by their side. You can always look here https://www.blissfulbirthsandbabies.com/team on who my backup team is. If you feel there is someone you are being called to as a potential backup, I can always arrange a quick call with you before your birthing day to ease your mind!
